The Business of Healthcare Podcast with Tara Humphrey

Jul 9, 2020

Dr Mala Mawkins is a trained doctor, has featured in Forbes 30 under 30, feature in Vogue magazine, been a finalist of Women of the Future UK and is host of the Royal Society of Medicine Podcast. She currently works for Cellen Therapeutics a provider of personalised cannabis-based products for patients living with long-term conditions.

Mala joins me today to talk about what she is doing to help promote change. She shares some of her experiences of facing discrimination and her thoughts on diversity in the healthcare sector. She talks about her journey so far, and how some of the amazing opportunities she’s had have come about when she has put herself out there. She shares that she has fears too, but has used her inner confidence to step out her comfort zone to progress her career.

“The light has been shone on every other sector, it has been shone on the music industry, the film industry, it has been shone in the finance sector and these stark inequalities in leadership have been highlighted and change has started, yet in the healthcare system the light is still not shining, the lamp isn’t even switched on.” Mala Mawkin
